PACK
EVENTS:
(for a complete list of Pack and Scouting events,
check the calendar)
*** NEXT PACK EVENT:
Clifton Park Fourth of July Parade - Friday, July 4th. We'll gather at 11:30 a.m. on the Shenendehowa main campus (north side). The parade begins at noon and follows an approximately mile route to Clifton Commons. After the parade we'll have a casual picnic next to the playground behind the ice rink at the Commons. Scouts should wear their full Class A uniforms for the parade. The parade is a lot of fun (what Scout wouldn't enjoy being the center of attention and throwing Pack-provided treats to the crowd!). Hope to see everyone there.
Updated Upcoming Pack Events:
While Blue & Gold traditionally marks the end of weekly
meetings for most dens, Pack 42 will continue to have events every
month all through the fall. Some upcoming events include:
- Fri, July 4, noon -
Clifton Park 4th of July Parade and picnic.
- TBD - Tenant
Creek Falls hike
- July and August
- Day and Overnight (resident) camp sessions at Camp Boyhaven
near Saratoga.
- October - Overnight
on the U.S.S. Slater, the last WW II destroyer escort ship still
afloat.
Pack Committee Meetings - -
Monthly Pack Committee meetings will resume in August. In the meantime,
if you have any questions, concerns, comments, or ideas, please
don't hesitate to contact John Moore, Jim Bell, or your den leader
(phone and emails listed
here).

RECENT
PACK
EVENTS:
Pack Spring Picnic, Raingutter Regatta & Crossover Ceremony - (June 13, 2008) This pack picnic marked the
last big pack event for the 2007-08 Scout year. We celebrated
the return of summer with family, friends, food and fun. Scouts raced boats in a "Raingutter
Regatta" and we held a formal crossover ceremony for each
den, marking the "graduation" of Scouts to their next
scout rank.
Pack Hike at the Natural
Stone Bridge and Caves - (May 25, 2008) Pack 42 scouts saw
some amazing Adirondack geology, including the largest mable cave
entrance in the east, and their hike counted towards their 5-mile
hiking patch.
Visit to Thacher Park Nature
Center and Indian Ladder Trail Hike - (May 10, 2008) The
weather was perfect for a pack trip to Thacher Park. We visited
the nature center and then enjoyed a naturalist-led hike on the
Indian Ladder Trail. May 10th was also World Scouting "Jamboree
On The Trail" -- with scouts from around the world hiking that
day -- and our scouts earned a commerative patch for participating.
Conservation Project at
Dwaaskill Preserve - (April 26, 2008) We did a great job
on the Dwaaskill Preserve Conservation porject at our pack meeting
on Saturday, April 26. Photos of our scouts in action were submitted
to the Community News so check out upcoming issues. Fourteen scouts
attended and worked on their Leave No Trace award. In order to complete
the award, scouts must practice the Leave No Trace guidelines on
three separate outings. This can be done on your own at the baseball
field, soccer field, park, bike trail, school playground, etc. Plan
ahead, stick to the trails, manage your pet, leave what you find,
respect other visitors and trash your trash. Great job Pack 42!
2007-08 Blue & Gold
Celebration - (March 9, 2008) Scouts and their families got
together at the Vista Restaurant in Jonesville to celebrate Scouting's
birthday as well as a year's worth of achievements by the Cub Scouts
of Pack 42. We honored the Scouts' accomplishments -- including
an Arrow of Light ceremony for Webelos who are soon to join the
ranks of the Boy Scouts -- and thanked the adult volunteers who
give so much to keep the Pack running. There was be Scout-led entertainment
and a wonderful brunch put on by the Vista. Thanks to everyone who
helped make this such a success!
Ice Fishing/Snowshoeing
at Moreau Lake State Park - (February 17, 2008) Scouts and
their families met at Moreau Lake for lessons on ice fishing, snowshoeing
and the forest around the lake. Everyone stayed warm with hot chocolate
and marshmallows thanks to the kind volunteers from Friends of Lake
Moreau. This fish got away this time, but we'll be back!
Pinewood Derby - (January
18, 2008) Scouts wowed a packed audience with their creative and
fast Pinewood Derby cars. Besides the Derby races on a newly purchased
track, there were awards, uniform inspections, pizza and desserts.
December Pack Meeting -
(December 14, 2007) The year ended with a POWWW as we handed
out awards for Scouts' participation in our popcorn fundraiser.
To the cheers and laughter of everyone, seven Scouts earned the
chance to throw pies at Cubmaster Wayne Burdge. Scouts also made
decorations for a Christmas tree we donated to the CAPTAIN Youth
Shelter.
November Pack Meeting -
(November 16, 2007) The theme was EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
and the meeting featured multiple stations for the Scouts to learn
about fire safety, first aid, and emergency preparedness from local
fire and police volunteers.

10 & 19, 2007) Again this year Pack 42 participated in the Scouting
for Food drive that collects food donations for local food shelters.
Pack 42 Welcomes New Tiger
Den - (October 11, 2007) The new Tiger Cub Scout Den had
it's first meeting on Thursday, October 11th. Tigers worked to earn
their Tiger Totem and collected leaves outside for a fun leaf-rubbing
project. The Tigers will meet on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00 pm (next
meeting is October 25). Go Tigers!
October Activities - (October
7, 2007) We've added pictures on the right and in the photo gallery
from recent Pack 42 Scouts trips to Clifton Park Town Hall, to nature
hikes in Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve, to a multi-pack overnight
on the U.S.S. Slater and to a religion award ceremony at St. Edwards.
And October is just getting started!
